Acne treatments

Acne does not discriminate; whether you are in your teens or an adult, if you have experienced acne skin, you know how horrible and awful it can be to have acne. No matter what your age, having acne is embarrassing and they would do anything to get rid of it or minimize their acne.

There are ways you can reduce or eliminate acne skin:
•    There are many over-the-counter medicines that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid which have been proven to reduce the size and severity of the acne as well as remove it from your skin.

•    Another way to reduce acne is to gently clean your skin. Don’t scrub your face as this could cause the acne breakout to worsen or cause scarring. When washing your face, use your hands, as any terrycloth or other scrubbing material may cause acne sores to rupture.

•    Make sure you use only non-comedogenic moisturizers if you need to use a moisturizer. These types of moisturizes do not aggravate the acne and will help keep your skin clear.

•    Use only oil free moisturizers that contain anti-bacterial agents on your acne skin.

•    For women, use only oil-free foundations and wear light make-up. Make-up contains properties that may cause acne to worsen.

•    Many flesh colored cover-ups can hide the acne and are recommended as long as they are water based.

•    Getting your face cleaned with things like facials can be beneficial. If you suffer from whiteheads and or blackheads, the steaming and deep cleaning effect of some facials will help. Getting your skin cleaned by a professional can help unclog pores and reduce the effects of acne on your skin.

•    The pore strips you can find over-the-counter are a kind of do-it-yourself facial that helps remove blackheads and deep clean the pores. They can be helpful if used properly.

•    Toothpaste and vinegar have also been touted as good remedies. Try them for yourself and see if they work for you.
While these are all good suggestions, having a good skin care regimen will also help keep your skin clear from acne.

A good skin care regimen is:
•    Gently clean your skin twice daily and use a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash. If you find this too harsh or are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, use a 2% salicylic acid wash.
•    Use a 5% benzoyl peroxide gel directly on the acne to help reduce it.
•    When you go to sleep, use a spot cream applied directly onto the acne.
•    If you wear make-up, use light oil-free makeup and foundations.
